Biography
Wrecsam 2025
Gold Medal for Craft and Design
Denbighshire based glass artist Verity Pulford’s practice is inspired by the natural world; particularly the intricate structures and growth patterns found in plants and marine culture. She is especially drawn to cryptogamic plants such as lichen, moss, and algae, as well as fungi, and the rich textures and forms of marine creatures, invertebrates, and coral. The experience of being immersed in nature and observing it closely is a key influence. This attentive way of looking inspires her making process, where Verity draws inspiration from the quiet joy she finds in nature, the sense of safety, solace and gentle wonder. Creating involves a wide range of processes, often combining glass techniques such as casting, pâte de verre, kiln-forming, painting, and etching, alongside the incorporation of natural materials. She has also recently started working with porcelain, combining this with her glasswork. Verity’s work plays with ideas of magical realism in creating forms inspired by or combining different plants and organisms.
