Biography
“I will often draw upon cultural events and folk imagery and re-imagine these into figurative compositions to challenge and question our relationship with land and its history.”
One of Wales’ most exciting painters, Meinir studied a BA and MA in Fine Art and also taught at the Carmarthen School of Art. Her work is firmly rooted in Welsh culture and often draws on historical events and folk imagery that challenge the complex human relationship with land and its history. Meinir vibrantly depicts fiercely rebellious and independent characters that are reimagined with a modern perspective as she masterfully draws reference to Welsh identity and cultural influences throughout her body of work. Her work is rich with the symbolism from Welsh Folklore that is simply captivating. Many of her paintings are held in the National Library of Wales and she has recently won the People’s Choice award at The Royal Academy of Fine Art.
