Natalie Chapman
"My work is a testament to the power of resilience, the importance of representation, and the necessity of art as a space for challenging, questioning, and dreaming beyond the structures that try to contain us."
Natalie Chapman is a figurative painter based in the small market town of Aberaeron. After studying Art and Design in Coleg Ceredigion she has gone on to gain a first-class hons degree in fine art at Coleg Sir Gar Carmarthen. Natalie’s portraits engage deeply with themes of identity, human relationships, and social documentary, drawing upon spontaneous and snapshot-like compositions through bold use of colour and space. With a blend of emotional rawness, gritty expression and visual intensity, her paintings set scenes charged with ambiguous tension that illuminate the complex realities of relationships, capturing moments that are profoundly relatable. The artist’s bold approach cultivates a sense of edginess that invites viewers to contemplate the intricacies of personal stories—exploring the interplay of tenderness and strain in human connections.
