Katie Allen

The Welsh landscape is Katie's primary source of inspiration — home, a place she feels deeply connected to and part of. She finds inspiration walking in nature, working in harmony with the seasons, deepening her awareness of the world's transience and impermanence. Through composition, surface and tonal harmony, she strives for a sense of the sublime — quiet, contemplative work, undisturbed by anything that might unsettle it.

Increasingly concerned by the ecological crisis and humanity's alienation from nature, Katie has reconsidered how she works. Having long used acrylics — derived from synthetic resins and plastics — she found this incompatible with work about nature's fragility, and has moved to charcoal on clay board, a new chapter exploring sustainable materials.

Her untouched, imagined landscapes read as a swan song for a beautiful world slipping away — and equally, a vision of a future in which nature recovers, flourishes and exists once again on its own terms.
