My paintings explore the play of scale from macro to micro and the movement between representational and abstract. They are enjoyed on different levels, with the viewer constantly finding new areas to explore and be drawn into.
Katie’s paintings focus on Welsh landscapes and changing seasons, blending recognisable scenery with intricate abstract patterns and harmonious colours. Her works invite viewers to explore both the grandeur and the minute details, shifting fluidly between representation and abstraction. Each piece refracts the natural world through her distinctive perspective, distilling countless forms into motifs orchestrated across her work. Subtle variations in tone and colour evoke diverse cultural references—mosaic, stained glass, Persian miniatures, calligraphy, art deco, 1950s textiles, psychedelia—all interwoven into a seamless whole. While not literal depictions, Katie’s landscapes offer imagined worlds untouched by human destruction, providing a sense of refuge, calm, and beauty.
