“I was born in a quiet part of South Wales – Sarn, near Bridgend – squashed between a former market town and the mouths of the three mining valleys, Llynfi, Garw and Ogmore. Failing the 11+ (the government’s device at that time for choosing who, at the age of 11, should or shouldn’t receive an education), my maverick stumble over and through life’s pathways began with only a little disadvantage. In 1971 I found myself at the Royal College of Art in South Kensington, and unpacked my bags for over 20 years. Many exhibitions eventually ensued, in London, America, Germany and Cardiff, before I returned to Wales in the mid-nineties, unpacking my bags once more, along with Sue, my wife, ...and I started to paint uncomplicated paintings about our life.”

Kevin Sinnott (1947–2026) was a Welsh artist with a truly international reputation. Back in Wales, he drew his inspiration from the people and places around his home, and from the community and characters of the South Wales valleys. His work was primarily concerned with human relationships caught in fleeting moments of time, with the influence of the landscape felt in his vibrant colour and confident brushwork. His work is held in collections worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the British Museum and Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales.
