Lyndon Thomas

Lyndon  was born in Llanelli in 1941 and has been painting and exhibiting for over five decades, working across three linked disciplines: painting, pottery and wood turning. He first exhibited figurative oils in the early 1960s, placing industry within landscape, before turning in 1966 to stoneware pottery shown throughout Wales and England. He returned to painting in 2008, developing a method of working in acrylic on paper with painting knives. His subject is chiefly the open, windswept landscapes of North Pembrokeshire and the Llŷn Peninsula — huddled houses, wind-bent trees, roads vanishing into distance, lit by fugitive gleams of light through mist and cloud.  In this bleak and precarious place, Lyndon finds nobility, stoicism and great strength, creating work imbued with understated beauty and guarded grandeur.
