Oriel Canfas is growing, and we're looking to fill two part-time roles that work closely together but hold distinct responsibilities: a Gallery Curator to shape and expand our exhibition programme, and a Gallery Manager to run the gallery's day-to-day operations. Both roles share responsibility for keeping the gallery open, welcoming and well presented.
About Oriel Canfas
Oriel Canfas is a contemporary fine art gallery on Grosvenor Hill in Cardigan, directly across from Cardigan Castle — the site of the first Eisteddfod in 1176. We are the official sponsor of the 2026 Gold Medal for Fine Art at the National Eisteddfod, and our exhibition programme regularly brings together some of the most significant names in Welsh contemporary art alongside emerging talent. Cardigan itself is part of the draw — a working west Wales market town with real cultural weight, the Ceredigion coast on the doorstep, and a pace of life that suits people who want their work to actually shape the community around them.
Gallery Curator (Part-Time)
You'll shape what visitors see and experience at Oriel Canfas — developing the exhibition programme, building artist relationships, and giving the gallery its curatorial voice.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and deliver the exhibition programme, from concept through to installation
• Build and maintain relationships with artists across Wales, and identify new talent
• Work with Gallery Manager to ensure all communication from gallery is prompt and professional
Gallery Manager (Part-Time)
You'll keep the gallery running smoothly — the operational backbone that makes it possible for exhibitions, sales and events to happen without a hitch.
Responsibilities:
• Support marketing for exhibitions and events, from print materials to online promotion
• Handle order fulfilment, including coordinating collection or delivery of purchased artwork
• Manage inventory and the gallery database
Shared Responsibilities
Both roles are hands-on, and we're looking for two people happy to help out wherever it's needed — things like sales, general gallery admin and covering opening hours between you. It's meant to work as one connected effort, not two separate jobs. This includes:
• Covering opening hours between you, including Saturdays and changeover days
• Front-of-house duties: welcoming visitors, answering enquiries and handling sales
• Building relationships with artists, collectors, and organisations across Wales
• Keeping the gallery's social media and online presence consistent and fresh
• Being present at private views, exhibition openings and gallery events, and helping grow the events programme over time
About You
For either role, we're looking for someone who:
• Has relevant experience — gallery, arts, retail or hospitality background all welcome,
• Genuinely enjoys talking to people and welcoming visitors
• Is reliable and happy to take ownership of opening hours on your working days
• Cares about contemporary Welsh art and the wider cultural context
• Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential
