Lola Rose Chapman: Essence of Place
Grounded in an acute sensitivity to her surroundings, this exhibition of all new work presents Lola’s exploration of landscape as an evolving dialogue between perception, emotion, and place.
Meet The Artist Saturday 7 March 1-3pm
Lola invites viewers into the living pulse of the Welsh landscape, translating sensation into colour, motion, and form. Each painting emerges from her close encounters with the terrain of West Wales—its mutable weather, open skies, and shifting light. Rather than depicting scenes, she constructs experiences: moments of immersion where memory, atmosphere, and material converge.
Her paintings unfold through instinctive movement and fluid gesture, capturing not what is seen, but what is felt. Marks are layered, dissolved, and redefined until they echo the expansive stillness or wild energy of the land itself. The resulting works hover in a space between abstraction and recognition, evoking both the intimacy of place and the boundlessness of perception.

Exhibition Runs 28 Feb- 28 March
Oriel Canfas Gallery continues its dynamic program with three vibrant solo exhibitions this March to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD). As part of the 2026 IWD campaign ‘Give to Gain’, Canfas joins forces with gallery TEN Cardiff, to host ‘LIFE LINES’ a major exhibition of paintings by Annie Morgan- Suganami being held in the main space of the gallery. In the upstairs galleries we present Lola Rose Chapman’s ‘Essence of Place’ a solo show of new abstract landscapes inspired by West Wales, and we introduce artist Dottie-may Aston whose exhibition ‘Excuse Me?’ weaves self-portraiture with contemporary life and old whimsical tales.
‘It's a real pleasure to collaborate on this exhibition - a partnership that stems from a shared conviction between Canfas and TEN that galleries exist to support the arts and to uplift the artists of our country,” says TEN’s Cat Gardiner
Annie Morgan Suganami sings with Sue Jones-Davies at 2pm. Raising money for Enfys Aberystwyth, a specialist resource base for autistic children at Ysgol Llwyn Yr Eos.
Many remember Sue as the character Judith Iscariot in Monty Python's 1979 Life of Brian. The town of Aberystwyth banned the film on its release until Sue was elected mayor there in 2008. Sue will be singing a cappella with longtime friend Annie raising money for Enfys Aberystwyth.
