Bedwyr Williams (b.Bedwyr Williams (b. 1974, St. Asaph) works across video, installation, drawing, painting, sculpture and performance. Layering the verbal and visual, his practice is characterised by acute, wryly empathetic observation of human behaviour — drawing on the quirky banalities of autobiographic existence to develop work that merges art and life with a comedic twist that is at once sympathetic and relational.
Williams has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, has represented Wales at the Venice Biennale, and is an Eisteddfod Gold Medal winner. He received the Derek Williams Trust Purchase Award in association with Artes Mundi in 2017. His work is held in the British Council Collection, the Arts Council Collection, the Government Art Collection, the National Museum of Wales, the National Library of Wales, and the Saatchi Gallery.

The work was more or less about my odd relationship with agriculture, rural traditions and aesthetics, and perhaps a little about the trite use of Welsh traditions. I’m from an agricultural background, although neither of my parents was a farmer, and I grew up in Colwyn Bay, which was quite a hostile to the Welsh  language as well as to some of my smellier relatives (manure) when they would visit.
