Sam Vicary
Sam Vicary’s paintings arise from memory and quiet contemplation, capturing moments of stillness when thought meets landscape. Working intuitively, she layers still life and landscape so that pots and plates lead the viewer into shifting spaces of reflection. Objects rest on walls and rocky ledges, forming gentle transitions through time and place. Her stitched paintings offer playful, tactile responses to land, tracing hedgerows and boundaries through thread. Education has profoundly shaped her practice: early experiences at college and university revealed the vitality of creative communities and the generosity of mentors such as Osi Osmond, Jayne Bingham, and Eliza Bonham Carter. Teaching, to Vicary, is an extension of artistry—an act of sharing perception, fostering growth, and contributing to social and creative change.
