Sam Vicary
“I’m inspired by the physical act of painting and the space it creates for stillness and reflection. I love being in the landscape and painting is a joy. Through my work, I try to share something of what I feel, in the hope that it resonates with the viewer."
Sam Vicary is a painter from west Wales who works with the memory of a place. Working intuitively, she combines still life and landscape so that domestic objects lead the viewer into a shifting space of stillness and reflection. Objects rest on walls and rocky ledges, forming gentle transitions through time and place. Her stitched paintings offer playful, tactile responses to land, tracing hedgerows and boundaries through thread. These intuitive, quiet studies follow the rhythms of the landscape with a subtle, almost eerie quality. Sam balances her arts practice with her work in community arts, a relationship that underpins her commitment to social and creative change.
