Carol Francis

Carol Francis is a painter and ceramicist who has lived and worked in Wales for over three decades. She studied Fine Art at Walthamstow School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools, where drawing was deeply valued as the foundation of all artistic practice. Her work is rooted in the landscape, exploring its shapes, tones, colours, and patterns. What may seem ordinary in the natural world offers Carol endless inspiration and scope for interpretation. Oil painting has been her lifelong passion, sustained by a fascination with the medium’s ability to capture subtle colour relationships. She creates drawings en plein air throughout the year, using them as starting points for her studio paintings. Recently, she has embraced soft pastels, finding in their delicacy and nuance an exciting new direction for her work.
