Helen Sinclair
"I have been making sculpture for over thirty years and the process is still a delight to me. With every piece I make, I find the working process both comfortingly familiar and refreshingly surprising."
Helen Sinclair was born and brought up in Carmarthenshire and did her foundation course at Carmarthen School of Art 1972 – 73. She studied sculpture at Wimbledon School of Art, graduating in 1976 and has worked as a full-time self-employed sculptor since 1988. Inspired by the human form and its artistic depictions throughout history, she creates semi-figurative pieces cast in resin or bronze from originals in plaster, clay, wax, or wood. Living by the sea on the Gower Peninsula, found beach materials often introduce new sculptural vocabularies into her work and are as stimulating to work with as the subject matter. Helen exhibits widely throughout Britain, notably at the Chelsea Flower Show, and her sculptures are held in collections worldwide. Public commissions include works for Chichester Cathedral, All Saints Church in Fulham, and Brecon Cathedral. She lives and works with her husband, sculptor Terry Ryall, and is President of the Society of Women Artists.
