Sophie Turner
Sophie Turner’s oil paintings pay tribute to ‘Gretel,’ a crow fledgling she rehabilitated after finding her injured by the roadside. Over ten weeks, Turner bonded with Gretel, who accompanied her everywhere, perched on her shoulder or nearby. This experience, combined with living near a family of rooks, deepened Turner’s respect and admiration for corvids—intelligent birds with complex social networks. Turner’s work, with a gothic feel, beautifully captures the unique personality of each bird, presenting them as if they were classical portraits. An artist, ceramicist, and jewelry designer, Turner graduated from Middlesex University in 1999 with a BA in Three-Dimensional Design, specializing in ceramics. Her art reflects her love for corvids and the profound connection she shared with Gretel.
