Gillian McDonald
“I have walked, sketched, and painted this landscape for over thirty years until it has become part of me”
Drawn irresistibly to the distinctive light and wild beauty of North Pembrokeshire, Gillian finds deep inspiration in the region's ancient geology and its prehistoric standing stones. Shaped by Pembrokeshire’s earliest artists, the stones remain enduring testaments to their profound relationship with the land, and Gillian shares this deep affinity with those first artists, whose art was inseparable from the landscape itself. Gillian's fascination extends to the places where the land meets the sea-the fishing villages and untamed coastline where enduring rocks confront the ceaseless rhythm of the waves. Favourite headlands such as St Davids, Strumble, and Ceibwr provide endless sources of wonder and reflection. As her relationship with the landscape has deepened, so has Gillian's technique, now incorporating collage and natural materials that echo the layered, ever-changing essence of nature.
