Clare Rose

Biography
"I am transfixed by the effects of light on any subject"
Growing up as the youngest child in a large family, Clare was immersed early in a creative household led by a resourceful, artistic mother who inspired daily imaginative activity. This formative environment fostered her fascination with people and the human condition, themes central to her early painting in portraiture. Over time, her focus expanded to the shifting light, landscapes, and natural forms of Pembrokeshire. Her representational works, grounded in keen observation, have evolved into more abstract compositions drawn from memory and emotion, inviting viewers to share in sensory interpretation. She has exhibited in group and solo exhibitions throughout Wales and is the first female artist and ex-student to be commissioned to paint the retiring University of Aberystwyth President, Lord Elystan Morgan.
