Julie Davis RCA
"I describe myself as a visual magpie: a collector of found things, fascinated by what stories our belongings tell, and how we interact with our things."
Originally from Northamptonshire, Julie Davis moved to Wales in 2004 and completed an MA in Fine Art and Art History at Aberystwyth in 2010. An artist and educator, she works mainly in traditional oil painting, focusing on still life and portraits, and regularly undertakes commissions. Treasure runs through her work: people, objects, creatures, anything that catches her eye. A collector by instinct, she is drawn to everyday things imbued with playfulness, nostalgia or longing, and to the stories our belongings tell. A still life can be a portrait or landscape in its own right, and an assemblage can suggest agency and narrative. She has exhibited in Wales, across the UK, including the Royal Society of Women Artists and the Royal West of England Academy, and in Europe.
