Myles Mansfield

Biography

"I am always trying to find the edge with my art — the point where something is broken just enough that the original figure is not lost, while allowing the viewer's eye to fill in the missing pieces."

Born in 1968, Myles worked across a range of professions before returning to education in 2014 to study Fine Art, graduating with a First Class Honours degree from Swansea College of Art in 2017 and a Master's with Distinction in 2020. He is currently undertaking PhD research in kinetic sculpture at York St John University, and in 2024 was accepted as an Associate Member of the Royal Cambrian Academy.
Myles works across watercolour, oil, acrylic, and mixed media/collage, alongside a sculptural practice in steel that frequently incorporates recycled materials. His animal sculptures give organic form to metal, while his kinetic works take on humanoid figures, exploring how humans are changing through our growing integration with digital technology — the central concern of his ongoing PhD research at York St John University.
