The Welsh Group: An artists' collective giving a voice to the visual arts in Wales.
The Welsh Group is Wales’ leading professional artists’ collective, recognised for its longstanding contribution to the development and visibility of contemporary visual art.
The Welsh Group is one of Wales’ most established and respected artist collectives. Founded in 1948 as the South Wales Group, it initially brought together both professional and amateur artists from the region’s six leading art societies. By 1975, the group had evolved into a professional collective and adopted its present name, The Welsh Group: Y Grŵp Cymreig.
Throughout its history, the Group has exhibited widely across Wales and internationally. Its members are not defined by any single movement, style, or manifesto, but are united by a shared commitment to the creation and exhibition of high-quality contemporary art. The Welsh Group fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and belonging among its members and within the wider Welsh artistic community. Collectively, they represent a broad spectrum of conceptual and visual approaches, expressed through a diverse range of media and processes.
