Joe Morris

Biography

“My work is largely inspired by nature, and the elemental forces which shape the landscape.”

Joe Morris comes from Cornwall’s Celtic fringe, drawing on the ancient landscape around him for constant inspiration.  The megalithic monuments, stone circles, and earthworks created by the ancient cultures of Britain remain a constant source of fascination, as does nature itself. Joe’s work is an attempt to understand and capture the essential elements of nature while honouring our ancestors, often illustrated through the elegance and simplicity of geometric forms which are endlessly captivating.  Joe’s art goes further by realising these concepts through the use of tadelakt plaster which itself is an ancient material used in Morocco for millennia. Joe strikes a balance between these ancient influences with a contemporary approach, creating works which occupy the realm somewhere between painting and sculpture. The resulting images are calm and minimal in composition with the aim of making quiet, contemplative art which will connect with people at a deep, universal level.
