"My fascination with nautical nature persists although sculptures have become more abstract and technically challenging."

Brought up by the sea in Whitby, Darren began his work as a quarryman and stonemason, first learning about geology and how to extract material from the earth before shaping and then carving stones for architectural applications. Darren developed a remarkable flair for intricate stone carving, and following a serious road accident that nearly claimed his life, he decided to focus his unique skills on creating beautiful sculpture in response to a renewed appreciation of nature and the beauty of our time on earth. Through the course of his work Darren has developed a strong personal style and through his dedication gained a following for his work, including commissions for greater sculpture.
