Ian Phillips

Biography
"My printing process today still starts with a walk and a sketchbook as it’s always done."

Mid Wales based printmaker Ian Phillips specialises in consecutive series of linocut and woodcut prints taken from drawings done while walking long distant footpaths and exploring particular areas of interest.  He follows lonely trails over empty hills, down twisting forest tracks, or along sea cliffs looking for colour, pattern and texture to drawSince moving to Wales over 25 years ago he’s been making largescale landscape and seascape prints with skills he’s developed from a wide variety of sources including the Djumbunji Print Workshop in Australia, and studying with Professor Wang Chou in Hangzhou, China.  He was also a member of the renowned North Devon print collaboration, Pine Feroda.
