Elizabeth Haines

Biography
My work has settled in a precarious hinterland between representation and abstraction, where information gained from years of drawing from nature has blended with the imagination.

Elizabeth Haines has lived in Pembrokeshire for nearly 50 years. Working constantly in sketchbooks, her inspiration comes from poetry and music as well as the natural world that surrounds her in her home in the Preseli Hills.  She originally trained as an illustrator, but her work has evolved gradually into a much more flexible and imaginative approach, a style which balances between topography and abstraction. Elizabeth has a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Wales, and in her thesis, The Web of Exchange, she explores the relationship between the different Arts. Elizabeth’s work is held in many prestigious collections across the country, including the National Library of Wales, and she has been Artist in Residence at the National Eisteddfod.
